I want to celebrate with you the growth, reach, and interaction of our virtual community on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube; we owe it to them. This is why we are launching this section that will be updated monthly and where you will see the Top 5 of my publications that have been viral, highlighted, the most comments on, and shared by parents, teachers, representatives, and child health professionals that find Fabitherapy to be informative and educational.
5. Don’t you even know how to remove the ants from your child’s body?
We provide therapies, games, and other sensory resources so that the little ones “bounce” and can calm the need to move, especially if they often do it during inappropriate times, such as during class, while eating, or while doing homework among other instances. Among the ideas shared in May, you will see a video that will prepare them for those moments when sitting still is required. This is when doing homework, going to school, eating in a restaurant, or going to work. And it doesn’t fail! Make him jump with the farm hopper, the inflatable toys shaped like small animals that help a lot.
What toys do you use to calm down and drain energy from your jumping child?
4. Does your child have trouble sitting still to eat and take a long time to finish a meal?
Daddies certainly suffer from this… Notice that we continue on the same theme as before. And so yes, how challenging it is and a frequent topic of consultation with us, how to get your child to attend more and better? And when it comes to sensory issues, I have been able to see amazing changes like the ones I share in videos of my patients and their happy parents! When seeking help and dealing with situations, the key is not to give up; taking measures of space and resources according to your children’s age and stage of development is a determining factor.
Through their presence at the table and during those significant moments, daddies and mommies, we will be able to accompany them and provide adequate sensory input during feeding. Intentionally guiding those who are “picky eaters” in their exposure to food in a positive and encouraging way, regardless of whether they reject it or try it, will help them learn how to appreciate food.
Do you know what changes you should make at home, in your daily routine, or at your workplace to minimize and eliminate those battles at mealtimes?
3. Which language do you use the most with your child? Verbal or gestural?
Leaving those spaces free for your children to believe things, imitate and solve without trying to handle everything for them so that they may learn is what we recommend. With a nice video that I analyzed and shared with you of JBalvin with his baby, it is evident that: body language, anticipating, connecting, and making eye contact will undoubtedly be unforgettable experiences. Knowing this… Sit up front and PLAY!
Think you could CONNECT BETTER with your children?
2. Does your child engage in activities that involve jumping, hitting, pushing, touching, biting… and doesn’t stop?
Your child may be having difficulty integrating the proprioceptive system. Through sensory therapies, you can provide them with the processing they need according to their development to achieve sensory integration. In my publications, you will find ideas for games and activities to capture a child’s attention, considering that there are several sensory factors to know to help them focus, learn, follow instructions and play with other children.
On my YouTube channel, you will find videos on how to do these joint compressions. Alternatively, I can teach you as an occupational therapist how to do it and activate their proprioceptive system. Additionally, in my video “Why do children act out in restaurants?”, you’ll learn how to address their restlessness and curiosity when facing stimulating places or situations so they can better handle and tolerate them.
Understanding and empathizing with your child is vital to attending to them promptly. The key to strategically guiding them in their growth with great love and patience is to know how they feel and perceive the world around them. Knowing if there are any sleep, feeding, or relational problems will serve as a compass for their growth.
NOTE: children CAN NOT LEARN IF…
- •They are hungry
- •They are sleepy
- •They do not feel safe
- •They do not have POSITIVE relationships with others
So meeting their basic needs first will give you better results. Although if you lose patience easily, if the screaming and stress overwhelm you, I can only remind you that parenthood is a shared learning process with your children. You don’t have to go through it alone.
There are professionals out there like us, tools, therapies, and valuable resources that will help you succeed in this beautiful stage of your life that many wish they could live and that you have and can cope with better. So monthly, we will continue with our virtual spaces of Questions and Answers, Live with Fabi! Where you can clear and clarify your concerns. So, I encourage you to be alert to the next opportunity and to watch previous episodes, which I hope can be helpful.
What was the most trending and viral topic on Fabitherapy?
1. The first place went to the video where I shared the topic of PERSONAL SPACE.
Maybe you feel identified because it irritates you, makes you uncomfortable, or you don’t even realize or don’t mind when it happens to you. But, understanding others, especially our children, is of great value. Depending on their age and condition, they DO NOT FEEL their bodies at some moments or stages. In addition, they do not UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE POSITION OF THEIR BODIES TO OTHER PEOPLE AND OBJECTS.
They are children whose bodies are bumping into everything, stepping on toys (without realizing it), rubbing against furniture, and walking all over the place. They are those restless little ones that live on top of you; they come very close when talking, constantly bumping into your body (and it seems to be on purpose), give you a nudge, or by accident, slap a friend or classmate and make them cry. They need physical touch in their life to express themselves and live. Children are sensory; they may have hyposensitivity or hypersensitivity that can be treated.
Without much thought, what was the last punch your child gave you “unintentionally”? Are you familiar with the rules of the BUBBLE AND THE CHICKEN’S WING? Practice it at home and let them know when they are too close to you, invading your bubble.
Among the comments I’m grateful for are leaving me:
“You made me think about my kids. I’m going to watch them better. I felt very bad because I’m not really a physical contact person, and sometimes I feel very invaded.”
“The teacher told me about it, and every day he hugs his friend tightly to the point of almost pushing him just as he gets off the school bus. I explain and explain, but he just doesn’t get it.”
“My son does that to me all the time, and every now and then, he squeezes me hard by the head. It’s exhausting because I can’t be calm for even a day. I didn’t know.”
“I loved these tips… I will definitely implement them.”
I can only tell you that in ONLINE INDIVIDUAL CONSULTING, I can help you according to your case.
If only you could see all the other comments people leave me in posts or privately… because there are so many possibilities and situations since each child is unique! Let’s watch how beyond labeling them, diagnosing them, or giving up on dealing with this exhausting situation, managing emotions that can affect them all, you can implement ideas to improve their daily lives, to learn, understand and know the design, language of expression, and love they possess, to validate and guide them in the best way.
For this reason, I am passionately dedicated to Guiding, Educating and Providing tools to parents about the development of their children, TO CREATE HAPPY CHILDREN!
